Apple Inc doesn’t do cheap. For those happy with its elevation to luxury brand status with the launch of the Apple Watch this clearly isn't a problem. But for those of us with limits on our disposable income it has irked for some time.

Take the high-speed Thunderbolt connection on Apple's MacBook range of laptops. Search on “Thunderbolt” in the Apple Store and you won’t find a compatible storage device for less than £150. Most are a lot more although you could buy a cable or adaptor for a mere £15. Whoop de doo!
